Carrix is a Hall of Famer -- the Maritime Hall of Fame, that is. Holding company Carrix carries three transportation-related businesses on its books. The company's SSA Marine unit is a leading marine terminal operator. It loads and unloads ships and provides warehousing and distribution services. Overall, SSA Marine operates from about 120 locations worldwide. Other Carrix units include Rail Management Services (RMS), which operates some 45 railyards in about two dozen states. Thirdly, Tideworks Technology produces marine terminal management software. Carrix is controlled by members of the Smith and Hemingway families, including president and CEO Jon Hemingway. Goldman Sachs owns a 49% stake in Carrix.
