Description While the Colorado Senate might not immediately conjure images of a Rocky Mountain high, its work is nonetheless vital to Colorado residents. The Senate, the upper house of the Colorado General Assembly, consists of 35 members elected to 4-year terms by constituents in their home districts. A Senate President leads Senate proceedings. Senate committees are responsible for creating bills that affect a wide spectrum of statewide issues, including education, ethics, and health and human services. Working with its counterpart, the Colorado House of Representatives, the Senate drafts bills that are then forwarded to the Governor's desk for final approval.
