The Connecticut Department of Transportation is street smart. The state agency constructs, repairs, and maintains the state highway system, which consists of more than 10,000 lane miles and nearly 3,900 bridges. Additionally, it provides commuter rail service; operates urban and rural bus services, ridesharing, and transportation demand management programs; and develops and maintains five state-owned general aviation airports, the Connecticut River Ferries, and the Port of New London facilities.
