Description The Houston Grand Opera Association (HGO) is one of the top opera companies in the US. Mainly known for its innovative productions of new operas, it has produced some 30 world and six American premieres since 1974. The Houston Grand Opera had been under the artistic direction of David Gockley since 1972. Gockley moved to the San Francisco Opera at the beginning of 2006 and was replaced in Houston by Anthony Freud, from the Welsh National Opera. The company also has an apprenticeship program for young artists (Houston Grand Opera Studio) and conducts numerous outreach programs for students and the general public. HGO was founded in 1955.
