Description KT keeps South Korea wired (and wireless). The former state-run monopoly is the country's #1 phone company. With 16 million phone lines, it controls about 85% of the fixed-line telephone and pay phone service market and is the largest provider of broadband Internet service, with 7 million subscribers and more than 40% of the market. (South Korea's population is 48 million). KT's wireless unit, which counts about 16 million subscribers for a 32% market share, ranks behind only SK Telecom in the mobile telecom segment. The company also provides business customers with IT services such as consulting and systems integration, and other subsidiaries are involved in real estate development and rental car services.
