MedAmerica Insurance Company, a member of New York not-for-profit health insurer The Lifetime Healthcare Companies, provides long-term care (LTC) insurance. It operates in every state except New York and Florida, where its sister companies provide coverage. MedAmerica develops, markets, and administers LTC policies for employer groups and individuals. The District of Columbia accounts for the largest portion of its business (about $6.5 million in business written), followed by North Carolina, Tennessee, and Connecticut. Founded in 1987 as a subsidiary of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Rochester Region, MedAmerica Insurance Company is affiliated with some 35 Blue Cross plans.
