Neurion Pharmaceuticals tries to nix the neuroses from neurotics. The company is developing novel small molecule drugs for the treatment of central nervous system disorders, such as schizophrenia, chronic pain, and Alzheimer's disease. Its research targets ion channels which regulate the flow of positively and negatively charged ions, such as potassium, sodium, and chloride, through cell membranes. Neurion's lead product candidate is a non-sedating anti-anxiety drug. The drug targets receptors that are also linked to sleep disorders and alcohol abuse. The company was founded in 2002 and operates an 8,000 sq. ft. facility in California.
