The company builds and customizes Linux-based workstations, servers, and clustered computing systems. It also offers third-party storage and peripheral equipment. The company's Scyld Software subsidiary, which it acquired in 2003, develops clustered computing software, including its Scyld Beowulf operating system. Penguin's customers have included Brookhaven National Laboratory, CACI International, Caterpillar, Duke University, Genentech, the National Institutes of Health, Northrop Grumman, and Stanford University. Penguin was founded in 1998.
