Description Carpets -- whether berber, pile, or shag -- are just piles of yarn unless they have backing material to give them structure and strength. Propex , formerly Amoco Fabrics and Fibers, produces polypropylene fabrics for industrial use, primarily for carpet backing. Propex also manufactures landscape and erosion control fabric and woven geotextiles, including silt fences and paving products. The company's industrial fibers and fabrics are also used in concrete reinforcement, filtration media, furniture and bedding, automotive applications, and packaging. Propex filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors in 2008.
