ProxyMed, dba MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, is a uniter, not a divider. The company brings together health care providers and insurers over a real-time transaction processing system that uses the company's proprietary Phoenix technology. Phoenix powers a Web portal called myMedAvant through which providers submit claims to insurance companies. In addition, the company designs, sells, and leases communication devices that clinical laboratories use to electronically send lab results to doctors. MedAvant operates across the US through six regional centers. Private equity investor General Atlantic owns 25% of the company. In July 2008 the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
