The co-op operates some 300 retail stores, including supermarkets and convenience stores, throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland. Its 110-store Semi-Chem chain sells health and beauty aids and household products. Other businesses include Scotmid Funeral Services and commercial and residential real estate investment. Scotmid acquired about 50 Botterills convenience stores in 2010, increasing its presence to nearly 200 locations throughout Scotland. The Botterills stores will be rebranded as Scotmid stores. Scotmid, which sold its M&S Toiletries unit in 2008, was founded in 1859 as St. Cuthbert's Co-operative Society.
