Description Going out for a pint takes on a new meaning at Scottish National Blood Transfusion Services (SNBTS). The organization, which began as a panel of donors in 1940, became a part of the UK's NHS National Services Scotland in 1948. Its primary mission is to collect and distribute blood, plasma, tissue, and cells. SNBTS also performs biotechnological research and partners with other parts of NHSScotland and other UK blood services, as well as the National CJD Surveillance Unit, The Roslin Institute, and academic researchers in such areas as microbiology and components, tissue and cellular therapies, and clinical transfusion. SNBTS currently operates from five facilities in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
