TransitCenter's mission is to get commuters out of their cars and onto a bus, ferry, train, van, or cable car. The not-for-profit company is charged with encouraging greater use of public and private transit services to improve mobility, reduce traffic, help the environment, and support the economy. Its website provides transit guides for a dozen US cities, including Atlanta and Washington, D.C. TransitCenter sold its TransitChek program, developed to encourage businesses and their employees to use public transportation through incentives that reduce payroll taxes for employers and allow commuters to pay for daily travel using pretax dollars. It continues to advocate for public transportation.
