Pros
The atmosphere of working in one of these clubs is second to none. The people who come to workout are truly amazing people to get to know. The staff that I had, though it revolved quite frequently, was almost always built of very lively, down to earth, easy to be around people.
Cons
The hours of this position were very long. The pay is decent, considering it does not take a college degree or any formal training at all to achieve this position. There is nowhere to move up from the General Manager position, nor do they believe in pay raises for this position. Every employee at club level is considered expendable, and you are treated as such. They do not train. You must depend on the employees around you to help you learn what to do, or hope that you got to spend time working under a good manager previous to being promoted to General Manager yourself. You are expected to know everything about the company and the job requirements without the formal training that every company should provide if they expect efficiency.
