Positive Global Colleagues but Challenging APAC Team Culture
Pros
The company offers strong remote work flexibility with relatively minimal day-to-day supervision. The systems and tools available are generally sufficient to perform the role effectively. I also had the opportunity to work with colleagues from the U.S. and U.K., many of whom were professional, collaborative, and supportive. The initial onboarding experience, including time spent meeting global teams, left a positive first impression of the wider organisation.
Cons
The experience within the APAC region differed significantly from the positive impression of the broader organisation. Leadership and team dynamics in the region often felt highly controlled and escalation-driven rather than collaborative. Meetings frequently focused on identifying issues and accountability rather than working together toward solutions, which could create a tense working environment. There also appeared to be limited trust in individuals to deliver within their roles. Responsibilities sometimes overlapped, and multiple stakeholders were often involved in tasks that would typically be delegated. This reduced autonomy and occasionally slowed delivery. Communication across functions could also be challenging. Instead of teams working together to resolve delivery issues, the culture at times leaned toward escalation rather than direct problem-solving. Over time this dynamic made collaboration increasingly difficult and affected overall team confidence. Another observation is that the employee experience in APAC may differ from the broader global organisation. While many global colleagues were collaborative and supportive, the regional dynamic felt noticeably different. In my experience, success in the region appeared to depend as much on navigating internal dynamics and escalation channels as it did on delivering outcomes.
