Pros

- Great office location - Amazing colleagues

Cons

- This company was acquired last year and didn't tell any of the employees. A colleague discovered this by looking in the business registry - Major layoffs in 2024 -Forced developers to work over-time but were trying to refuse to pay for the extra hours worked -Extreme nepotism, as there were multiple family members in management positions, even some who were not qualified or competent - One of the Cofounders has since been removed, but his favourite way to spend the day was to bully and mistreat employees when he felt stressed. - The other cofounder would take days to answer emails, if he answers them at all. Not a happy or kind person, and also was never quite sure of what he did besides taking selfies. - Men were given promotions for the minimum effort, but women employees were expected to work twice as hard for less money, and held to different standards - Empathy and understanding shown to male employees with children but not working mothers

If only it wasn't a family company

Pros

They used to have a full kitchen, the office is in a nice area

Cons

Life-work balance isn't a thing there, they pretend to care but you have to be available during their "flexible" hours from 10 to 4pm, they deny that you'll work after office hours but there's always a deadline that requires people to work late (and receive a shoutout Friday instead of proper time off), be prepared to be exploited! It's mandatory to work in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, although some people with more privileges can work from home or arrive late. Commonly, managers require you to be in meetings but they often aren't, team management is something that doesn't exist there, they throw work and demand people to figure it out, since most of the employees have recently graduated from school you can imagine the chaos, so they take advantage of this to pay low salaries and have high demands of mid-level and "seniors". With all that said, there is no process in the dev team, only in theory. You can expect misogyny, dark humor, and more inconvenience with the Monday and Friday jokes, eventually, the HR person will make inconvenient comments about appearances, money, race, and much more. It's a family company and that's very clear because they don't understand each other, the president is clueless about what's happening in his own company and the Montreal and Toronto offices are rarely in sync, priorities are never the same for both and that will end up reflecting in the devs... Incompetence reigns in every area. They made so many terrible decisions and wasted resources, and it was obvious to everyone that their "calculated risk" wasn't going to work at all.
