Pros

I had the opportunity to meet and work with some really interesting and talented people.

Cons

Pay is well below industry standard (even for other nonprofits). Be prepared to constantly have a carrot dangled in front of your nose and never be rewarded (or even recognized) for your hard work. The CEO praises mediocrity and continually looks the other way when team issues arise, allowing them to persist and get worse. But that's to be expected since most of the teams' cultural issues start with her inability to lead a team and get stuff done. Unless you're a VP, your opinions, ideas, and contributions don't matter.

Pros

Many free perks (Sparkling Water Machine, Free Tea, TGIF with free food & booze, very relaxed atmosphere, flex time. Front Desk staff are the best you will ever work with!

Cons

Unless you're a POC, Queer or anyone who isn't white & Cis Male, it is not welcoming as they seem. 1871 was an old boys club that protects its own and punishes you for not following respectability politics that championed DIVERSITY by hiring white women in management positions and keeps all the POC in lower positions with no voice or upward mobility. The EVENTS TEAM is made up of GirlBosses who are rude and think diversity is different ways to microaggress towards others all day. The CEO is nice enough but ignores all the issues because white supremacy is easier to look over when the money & sponsorships are rolling in. If you're a startup run by a POC or Queer, don't look for representation here or the connections you hope to make. Get educated on how to run a business and run in the other a direction as soon as you can. Staff will talk trash about your business (especially the ones with Black & Queer founders) behind doors while gaslighting all the ways they want to help you grow but its only for optics and social marketing. Don't trust anyone especially anyone who worked there with Howard Tullman.

Good members to work with.

Cons

Terrible CEO and COO. Very self-centered, abuse employees, questionable ethics, force political opinions on employees.
