Pros
We never think it could happen to us, but by pure probability at some point it will. Mobbing is the technical term. I prefer to call it working (or trying to work) with a psychopath, an incompetent, and a fool. In that order: my "lead", the CTO and the CEO. I can't say their names. Constant humiliation and contempt for my work, both in private meetings and group ones. Being on group video calls (yes, in plural) where some of them were constantly smirking, snorting, and making faces while I tried to explain my work to the rest. Comments from my lead like “You come from university, you people don’t know how to do these things...” or “I’ve never seen anyone like you in my life.” Unfortunate comments like that are completely unnecessary, especially when you have no idea about the other person’s mental state. They’re not your child or your husband, they’re a coworker, and you owe them basic respect. I could never file a complaint, because 3D-Shaper doesn’t have an HR department, or at least not a serious or proper one. And let’s not even talk about a committee or labor union. I thought about leaving, or that they would fire me soon enough, because the atmosphere was incredibly toxic. After 12 years of professional experience across three companies (two large and one small), I had never encountered anything like this. In the end, they did fire me, justifying it as “low performance.” I’m not the first person this has happened to this year. People who were doing their jobs well (or at least normally) but weren’t liked by my "lead" or the CTO. They both stick together, they’ve been friends like forever. And the CEO, being completely ignorant on a technical level, just needs to believe whatever they tell him. As an additional data point, in my last month at the company I wrote around 800–1000 lines of code, including all the debugging that comes with working on a moderately large application with virtually no tests or CI of any kind. I’ll admit there were a couple of bugs in my code, but easy to fix. Anyways, apparently that still wasn’t enough for them. During that same period, my "lead" wrote 4 lines (you'll be able to see her code for yourself in the main branch if they ever trick you into joining the company). That’s how things work there: hiring people who either get fired or leave within a few months. I contacted several of them through LinkedIn. Same story every time. You've been warned. On top of all this, there are also differing opinions about the integrity of the product they sell: check out the article "Critical evaluation of 3D-DXA and 3D-Shaper: methodological limitations and their implications".
