Pros

- Some food provided in the office - Relatively modern tech stack

Cons

The work environment feels generally hostile - out of all the places I worked they are the most willing to fire people. In my opinion the people who lost their jobs were usually scapegoated for poor decisions by the management. There is an atmosphere of casual sexism in the office, especially at the management level. Some action was taken to try and combat this, but it was neither sufficient or effective. It's not significantly worse than most places in the tech industry, but it is still a problem. The office is in a really bad location which makes commuting and getting lunch more of a stretch. The management present themselves as friendly and trustworthy, but behind the scenes this does not seem to be the case. There is the classic startup problem of money being prioritized over people. There seems to be little or no chance for career progression. They have taken steps to establish a system but it's chaotic and at least for the moment it's essentially a dead-end job

Pros

8fit is in a major growth phase – user acquisition is off the charts and the company recently raised capital, so there's a lot of opportunity to contribute new ideas across functions, from product to marketing to content. The team is also growing quickly to support that user growth and our ambitious goals – and 8fit recruits from everywhere! The team is very international, with several languages spoken in the office daily. The CEO encourages transparency and collaboration in our approach, and we're constantly testing and iterating on ideas, so it's a fast-paced, fun environment with opportunity to lead projects and take ownership of your work and your own success. 8fit also offers some pretty great perks: we get together every Friday for a healthy lunch, have a gym benefit and often meet up for fitness-related activities, and the company also organizes an (optional) offsite in the winter months to escape the Berlin grey - so we're heading top Thailand as a team in February!

Cons

As with any small, growing startup, there are some growing pains as we work to figure out processes, tools, systems, team structure, etc and how to scale the company effectively, but the management team is working to ensuring we're not growing too fast or too big without figuring out those things first and is communicative and transparent about the goings-on, so there's trust and visibility across teams.

Pros

- most colleagues are great and care about their work and each other - HR team does its best to make everyone feel happy and engaged - nice office - urban sports club membership and food (1x a week lunch and free fruit)

Cons

Where to start...? - There is absolutely no direction. Most people are sitting in the office and don't know what they're supposed to do, losing all sense of motivation. If people aren't looking for new challenges then that's because the salaries the company pays are very nice. - Horrible communication and in-transparency from the top. One example of many: A few months ago the (now fired) CEO made a fiery speech about how our current product is losing money and is bad and not going to work out anymore and because of that we are going to make a new product and it's going to be amazing and exciting. Everyone was excited by this vague but exciting premise.... ... Fast forward a few months and nothing has happened. Well... the CEO got fired, but before that, and on the down-low, told selected teams that we are not going to be working on this new product after all. There was never an official communication about this change of, according to the leadership's presentation, company-changing plan to build a new product. Yikes. - Mass lay-offs and people (understandably) leaving the company on their own wish obviously don't help with overall morale and motivation.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm really sorry you experienced a difficult period here. We have certainly gotten much more direction and stability now. Thank you also for the kind words on the colleagues and HR, this remains I hope :)
