Pros

- Surrounded by highly skilled developers - Very minimal legacy code - Lots of knowledge sharing - Extremely easy to get along with everyone - Developers are extremely helpful and do not judge - Work with modern frameworks to keep in line with constantly changing technologies - Work with JIRA releases, as well as continuous integration (Code is backed by tests) - Started to implement AGILE - Started to implement Working from Home and Flexi Time - Currently recruiting to ensure every team has their own dedicated FE developer and tester

Cons

- Only partially implement AGILE working and do no fully embrace AGILE - Project Managers are worked too hard (One role covers a variety of roles (Product Owner, Scrum Master, Business Analyst and Testing) - Can be a pressured environment - Not much opportunity to progress - Payrises are only in line with inflation - Next to no employee rewards - Old fashioned business that needs to modernise (Flexi Time and Working from Home have recently been introduced, but it has to be requested and signed off (not as loose/trusting as other tech companies); Next to no employee benefits) - No movement across projects. Once you are working on certain projects, you'll be on them for a long time.

Pros

- Decent amount of parking (if you're there early, otherwise expect to be blocked in) - Free drinks / Table football

Cons

- Location The location is out of the way with very little to do during lunch hour, unless you drive getting to the office will be an issue. You'll also have to deal with the Great Yorkshire Show traffic every year meaning you'll be required to get to work for 6/6:30am and sit in queues. - Environment Very cliquey and if you're face doesn't fit with the crowd don't expect to fit in. Office on most days is like a morgue as everyone is trying to work to overly tight deadlines with no space allocated for additional problems etc. - Work Small/Medium clients, tight deadlines and little progression. Expect to log every second of your daily work otherwise you'll be locked out of the main internal intranet. - Management Unskilled for the industry.

9xb Response

It's a shame to hear of the negative response to your time working for 9xb Limited. Though you have stated a neutral outlook, the review doesn't particularly come across as being neutral, nor entirely factual. We hope that over time you come to realise that 9xb provided (and continues to provide) an enjoyable and fair working environment. The fact that most employees serve 9xb for a number of years is testament to this. This is particularly the case given that a large proportion of our employees have come to 9xb having served much shorter terms at previous places of employment. To give readers and those interested in 9xb a more accurate reflection of the company, I would like to add the following... The location of 9xb Limited is HG3 1DH, to the south of the centre of Harrogate. Though we appreciate we are not in the city or town centre (where commutes by car and parking would be difficult), there are various supermarkets and a nice café which can be visited for lunch, even for walkers. The many friendly faces in the office are more than happy to offer lifts to those wanting to travel a little further. By car, Starbeck and Knaresborough are 5-10 minutes away, Wetherby 10 minutes, Harrogate 15-20 minutes. We have 1 hour lunch breaks, and management provides flexibility on occasion that someone needs a longer lunch break. The Yorkshire Show does indeed happen once a year, for 3 days, near our office in Harrogate; it is a time the employees look forward to. Not necessarily due to their love of cows, tractors and hog roasts, but since they get to beat traffic in the morning, arriving at 07:30h, and then beating traffic again in the afternoon, at 15:00h, to earn a much extended evening for the duration. Friendly faces exist throughout 9xb, and the environment benefits from this. We have many social outings and all company departments get on well with each other. On the rare occasions when we have one or two staff members who decide not to get involved in activities, we hold no grudge, nor do we discriminate. 9xb is excellent at hitting deadlines (we are happy to provide references to those requesting). We do not do this by putting pressure on the employees, but by having an extremely good understanding of project requirements "without" putting undue pressure on any of our staff. For those staff who feel as though they are under pressure and cannot deliver, management is very receptive to feedback and we are very good at sharing the workload. We are very proud to have one of the most diverse range of clients you might expect to find in a digital agency. Not only do we have strong relationships with small, medium and large clients, those clients are also spread across a large range of sectors. This is unusual for an agency, however 9xb's ability to really understand and deliver on clients' requirements and objectives provides the foundation for this. As a result it makes for an exciting workplace which encourages most members of staff to do their best for our clients. We invite people to look at the 9xb portfolio page of our website to get a feel for the clients we work with. As is the case for most businesses, we have to make a profit and must do so to best serve our clients. In order to provide the fantastic value that we do, it's important that we record the time we spend working on projects since we don't have the luxury of large buffers. Although it might be a slight chore and take developers a few minutes of every day, we don't feel that this is a huge burden for anyone. There are a few managers at 9xb, each with close relationships to their staff. Unfortunately we (and I refer to myself here) must make occasional mistakes since the writer of this review has not left with a positive feeling about the company. We do strive for this not to be the case however, and are lucky to have many years' experience in the industry, many happy members of staff (past and present) and many happy clients.

Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with. Every day brings a new challenge work wise. Free lunches and regular Company social events keep things ticking along.

Cons

You do sometimes have to work with legacy code - but the company is moving with the times and the latest tools are always on offer`.
