Pros

- Great team, great people. I've had the pleasure of working alongside some exceptionally talented people with a wide mix of skills and backgrounds. - Good opportunity for growth (for some). Management was very supportive in my personal growth prompting me to reach for higher positions. - Handball lunchtimes. The team was very welcoming and often held lunchtime games which were great for team bonding outside of your own departments. - Work life balance. I did very little overtime during my 3 years at A44, 40 hour work weeks lend much more time to home life.

Cons

- Politics. A44 started out with great promise however politics and in-fighting has left production in a confused state aspiring very little confidence in many. - Employee retention. While A44 has been able to attract some extremely talented artists in the digital arts space they've all very quickly moved on as they come up against a sometimes very negative work-environment. - Quick to point the finger. All too often I've been in meetings with the CEO where he is quick to point out flaws in other departments work, shaming others while never offering any constructive feedback. It felt un-professional at times and would always leave me feeling uneasy. - Salary & work life balance. Salary was quite poor compared to competing studios, juniors are on minimum wage with mid-level artists making just above that. As a senior the pay is better, but that varies from person to person. - Personal anecdote. I once had my pay deducted for being short of my weekly 40 hours by 10mins, even though for over a year prior I had been putting in an extra two to five hours a week, HR really lasered in on that shortcoming. - Final Thoughts. As negative as some of these points may seem, you will meet some very competent, creative, hard-working and genuinely great people, its just a shame that management can't quite figure out how to properly utilize the great talent pool they've sourced.

Great coworkers, very disappointing management.

Pros

-Amazing coworkers who really care about the project and company -Art leads are excellent and facilitate growth of devs very well -Relatively small team allows individuals to make a bigger impact on the game -Team culture is great, coworkers frequently spent time with each other outside of work when I was there

Cons

-Egotistical and out of touch management -Inefficient project management. There were periods of months where we didn't have a single dedicated producer. -CEO tries to be heavily involved in both the development and business side of the company and ends up doing both jobs poorly in the process. -Almost non-existent vision for projects since very large sweeping changes are made on a whim. This impacts team morale very negatively because of the amount of unnecessarily scrapped work. -Scheduled and unpaid crunch periods, these are "non-mandatory" but are heavily implied. -Management and higher ups frequently bad mouth other companies and ex-employees. -Very low salaries relative to the cost of living -A lot of broken promises that were made during development that were not made good on after release. These were just used as leverage to get people to work more unpaid hours.

Don't be fooled by new reviews!

Pros

There are definitely some positives. The team overall is great to work with - there are some really talented creatives who are all driven to create a great game. Overall the pay seems fair even if its slightly low compared to other places. There are regular social events held and the team genuinely seem to get along.

Cons

Where to begin! Firstly, people shouldn't be fooled by the most recent reviews as things haven't changed. It appears as though certain members have put reviews on recently to try and hide the bad ones. The managemnt team seems disconnected from the rest of the team and seem to be making it up as they go. The organisatoinal structure constantly changes and management can turn on individual staff members in a heartbeat. All the seniors that worked on Ashen have pretty much now left as the staff has turned over quickly the last year or so. Other than the CEO, only a handful of staff remain from Ashen. Management plays favourites and those who are "favourites" are promoted rapidly. However, favourites can be turned on just as quickly and be structured out. Feedback has been given aorund management and regular team surveys are undertaken - however nothing seems to change. The COO seems to be using her position to try and promote her own agenda. There are regularly monthly catchups which mostly centre around what she's done and her projects she is working on outside of A44. Senior management can turn on people quite quickly. If someone leaves or disagrees they are quick to talk about them in a negative way and how those staff were effecting the team. Although it drives from the top down and management need to look at why staff are leaving
