DO NOT WORK AT ABIOMED

Pros

Life saving device, amazing minimally invasive technologies. I truly believe in the product (although overused in the high risk PCI space), in the cardiogenic shock space (50% mortality) it is definitely an amazing tool to bridge patients to recovery or advanced therapies

Cons

Abiomed is a terrible company to work for. I worked foe abiomed for three years, after a year I asked my manager how come I am not being promoted like all of my peers and according to our agreement, my manager lied to me and said it was because my start date initiated after the quarter started (start 04/30/2018) so I must wait until next quarter, all while all other peers in my orientation got promoted with the same start date. During my employment I was put down and insulted, taken for granted and bullied. When I asked why I was being discriminated I was answered with complete silence. When the situation got really bad and I was the only clinical supporting NYC (12 hospitals + outside transfers) I was dismissed by my managers. When I realized I won’t ever be promoted by my manager I applied internally to a position I am well qualified for. I was told my my manager and HR the position got filled. When I pointed that was not the case and sent a screenshot of the job posting just hours earlier - HR simply changed the location of the position to appear as a different posting (which changed the location of the position I applied to from LA to HQ) (see picture) When the situation got really bad I asked to take a break and filed for FMLA - abiomed did everything in their power to not approve my claim. Upon filing the claim Abiomed exclusively took away my email access - when I asked if that is the case for any employee filing for FMLA - “I’m a new mom at Abiomed, is my email access revoked?” - I was basically told no, this is the case specifically for me. When they finally approved my FMLA claim weeks after, I could not get to the treatment plan originally booked upon filing the claim. I asked to come back to work while I rebook my treatment - I was then fired for “although not from your number, a team member got a text and perceived it to be you saying ‘God have mercy on your soul’”- that was the only actual reason for my dismissal. If you are gay you do not have a space at Abiomed, a conservative, militarized company who sees only money in front of them and pay zero care for their employees.

Pros

Great product, great mission. The product saves lives and has a great market potential.

Cons

Don't expect a work/life balance. You will work long days and weekends an then get rated average, at best. Management talks about having empowered, engaged employees, then micromanages and doesn't miss a chance to knock you down for any reason. The EMS systems (annual reviews) are about criticism and hypocrisy. If you don't don't fit for any reason (doesn't matter how well you perform at your job) they will, surprise, walk you out the door. This company is where careers got to die.

Pros

Job stability, company did well so the feeling of job insecurity was not there

Cons

I. Toxic culture, referred to maternity leave as “a vacation”. 2. Few women worked there and even fewer mothers. 3. No work/life balance. 4. CEO surrounds himself with “yes men” and kept applying his military background into those corporate initiatives. 5. Breed toxic work culture 6. No permissible hybrid work even during Covid. People were told to return to work and isolate at their desks and take meeting from work desk. 7. Desk checks performed to ensure butts were in seats early and late 8. Poor structure, people cut corners to push our work quickly and generally with poor quality 9. Trump paraphernalia in and around the office. Including a massive Trump/Pence cement truck parked in the parking lot.

As you know, Abiomed is a learning organization and open to discussing any subject that can help improve our processes, products, employee experience and patient outcomes. Therefore, we encourage that matters important to our employees be brought to HR for a confidential conversation as soon as possible. With that said, females represent 43% of our company demographics - many of whom are mothers. Also, 50% of our board of directors is female and/or minority. In our latest employee engagement survey, 84% of women at Abiomed reported a feeling of belonging and 90% said they feel that their job makes good use of their skills and abilities. Abiomed is a non-partisan company and we have never seen or been aware of a Trump/Pence cement truck on premise. Sincerely, Abiomed HR
