Pros

Working directly with individuals seeing the progress made. Most people who work in the field are people who care about the individuals supported.

Cons

Where to begin. Departments do not communicate and when they do it is more like a competition than collaboration. Talking to department VP and Asst. is like a Who’s on First routine. Hands are totally tied when trying to make an impact. Contradictions in policies, procedures and responsibilities almost weekly. Spend more time investigating hours staff work than anything else. Position is a so called supervisory position, yet there is no latitude to make decisions in individual’s best interests.

Pros

the work itself isn’t too bad; working with the individuals is usually fine

Cons

terrible management, terrible pay, toxic environment, try to make you feel guilty if you dont pick up 75 hrs, the individuals on paper are treated well but in practice they don’t matter at all; all this “nonprofit” cares about is making money for the higher ups and keeping their funding from the state also, they say they want to hire people with disabilities, yet offer no accommodations whatsoever and hate you if you dont dedicate your life to this job

Pros

Comp time if you can ever take it. No one pays attention to how much you call off as long as you fill your shifts. 2 sick hours earned a pay. Get minimal vac and personal time from the start.

Cons

Management has no idea what day to day is really like. If you can't cover a shift you work it regardless of you have already worked ridiculously long hours. You have to find a buddy to be responsible for your sites or you don't get to take your vacation/personal/comp time. Then oncall is either every 3 or 4 weeks depending on which region that you are in. When oncall you are responsible for 16 or 17 sites for either a week or weekend. Then, when you go over the magical amount of overtime that they allot, they will punish you. It doesn't matter if you work over 22.5 beyond your week at your sites for free, but don't do it at sites that the company would have to pay you for or it's a corrective action.
