A great job to learn about toxic office politics

Pros

• a great way to start your career and then find a much better-paying job six months later • you'll learn what you don't like about office jobs very quickly • some teams in some departments actually knock it out of the park and seem to have a fun culture, but it's not the norm

Cons

• trying to underpay pretty much everyone • ELT will say straight to your face that they aren't going to do something and then do that exact thing less than three months later • constant retention problems. so many people going in and out that barely anyone knows what their roles and responsibilities are • beholden to a really bad investment capital firm that makes awful judgment calls pretty much at all times • currently acquiring one company a year to graft onto the business frankenstein-style in order to juice their numbers and appear to be turning a profit • probably the cringiest leadership calls i've ever experienced in a professional environment...like an infomercial on food network at 3am that you can't pull away from because it's such a fascinating train wreck • desperately trying to seem progressive but the CEO appears to be libertarian and a lot of the culture is conservative christian behind closed doors

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your insights and are glad to hear that you found value in starting your career with us and experiencing some positive team cultures. We are, however, deeply concerned about the issues you've raised regarding compensation, leadership transparency, retention, and company culture. Your experience does not reflect the environment we strive to create. ACI Learning is going through a significant pivot and with that comes a lot of growing pains. We heavily empathize with how that impacts our Team Members. We appreciate the role you played in ACI's growth and we are going to continuously find the best ways to navigate through all of the change. People Operations is currently creating People Leader training to better support them in supporting our Team Members. They will continuously be committed to the growth to ultimately fulfill our purpose and promise for our students. If you have any further suggestions or would like to discuss your concerns in more detail, please feel free to reach out to the People Ops team directly. Your feedback is invaluable as we continuously evolve.

Used to be a great place to work

Pros

Loyal customer base and great product

Cons

ITProTV used to be a great place to work. It was not without its flaws, but most of the people were smart, creative, humble, and motivated by the team around them to work hard and be successful. ACI is an unrecognizable brand in the EdTech space that was formed when ITProTV, Misti, and LeaderQuest were bought and backed by private equity. It’s common to go through change and natural attrition in acquisitions but the culture now is extremely toxic. People who built an amazing product from the ground up and believed in the company are leaving in droves. Some don’t have other opportunities lined up, but the burn out, finger pointing, gaslighting and drama were too much to handle. When people have tried to speak up in a plea for changes, some leadership, specifically HR, make excuses that it’s a personal problem and not a company wide problem. There’s a huge lack of diversity at the top, and it’s clear this affects their ability to have different perspectives. And why there is offensive policies like the maternity leave. When we were acquired, the maternity leave was replaced with parental leave and slashed from 4 to 2 paid weeks. A year later, after speaking out against this policy, it was restored to 4 weeks. However, an addendum was added, only “natural mothers” get 4 paid weeks. Unnatural mothers get 2 paid weeks.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear you appreciate our loyal customer base and great product! We are so sorry to hear that the transition was challenging and the culture felt non authentic. Over the past couple of years, the ACI team has grown together and we really have created a supportive and close knit culture. Rather than HR, we are now called People Ops and that has intention behind it. We are here to support you and set you up for success at ACI. We have also brought our DEIB Committee and Culture Club together to form #OneACI. #OneACI consists of Team Members across ACI and People Ops who are dedicated to creating an environment where all Team Members feel a sense of belonging. We have recently changed our maternity leave to 8 weeks to increase the time to bond and heal. Thank you again for your valuable feedback and for playing a role in ACI's growth. Please don't hesitate to reach out to People Ops if you have any further questions or suggestions.

Culture Issues

Pros

This used to be a great place to work, and I did learn a lot from my time here. Previous leadership team was supportive and the culture was great.

Cons

The culture has become very toxic. Talented people with extensive institutional knowledge aren’t listened to or valued, and they are leaving in droves. As a result, there is a lot of scrambling to figure out systems and processes where gaps in institutional knowledge have now formed. Leadership encourages employees to bring things to their attention, but when they do leadership either spins it back on how the employees need to handle things differently, or promises of action are given and not carried out.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. Specifically, we recognize the value of institutional knowledge and making innovative leaps. You can't have one without the other. With your knowledge and with new ideas comes new ways to be bold.
