Pros

People that work here a generally nice, sharing the same pain of working for a miserable company. Great location in the city.

Cons

A company that does not put people first. In fact, they put everything else first, but the people. They hire as easily and carelessly as they fire people. And that happens really often. During the time that I've worked there almost everybody quit or was fired. When they fire somebody, they take the time to proudly explain to everybody that this is the way to stay in business. The president of the company is the typical egocentric architect who believes he has all the right in the world to look down on everybody who works for him. The “ I am the boss, you do as I say” attitude is low it itself. And in fact many would be able to put up with it better if he were actually great at what he does. Do your homework when you negotiate a salary and don’t expect them to keep their promise after they hired you. They will try to pay you as low as they can and even change your salary afterwards. After leaving this company I realized how many other great firms are out there that DO care about your evolution as an architect/designer, DO care about teaching and investing in you and that DO put people first. Try to find that firm. It’s out there.

Pros

Easy-going work setting with occasional happy hours on Friday to appease the underpaid junior staff.

Cons

The management lacks significant leadership skills and transparency to the employees. The company has a high employee turnover when I worked there. The quality of the work is mediocre despite what they try to claim. The office manager is rude and unhelpful esp. when approached by employees.

Pros

Good location in San Francisco. Good talent. International projects that look good on your portfolio.

Cons

High turnover. No transparency. Low pay (go by negotiation, not experience). Weak leadership. The firm cannot keep talent long and do not treat the staff professionally. Designers can do much more than drafting and redlining. Look around and see how other firms are treating and empowering their staff. And when employees leave, wish them the best of luck and appreciate their contributions. Don't say they will not find anything better than this and then badmouth them after they step out the door.
