Good ole boy network

Pros

Beautifully redecorated offices and the latest accoutrements; great staff; tech savvy if they could just hold on to the IT staff; work life balance encouraged if you can get it; appearance of an open door policy.

Cons

This is still a good ole boy run network and a male dominated system; diversity is superficial - you must watch and listen carefully; busy-body, gossipy and insensitive upper management and directors; do not dare to express your opinion concerning management styles if it is contrary to that which is currently in place.

Beware of the male dominated good old boy network

Pros

Can't think of any at this time.

Cons

Still operates under the good old boy principles; when problems arise, don't expect anyone to advocate for you, regardless of how good an employee you are, how honest you are or how hard you have worked. Expectations are that you work with less and have no voice when standards are less than par. I was kicked out when staffing and attendance was poor. When I asked for help, I was told I would get none and director let one of my much needed staff go when I was out one day so that his contract buddy could occupy the desk. It was the single most demoralizing experience of my life. My advice is to never work so hard for such a thankless firm.

Bad business

Pros

A smallish law firm headquartered in Atlanta, GA with one satellite office in Washington, DC. With only one or two exceptions, co-workers were very nice people and easy to get along with.

Cons

They use outdated online systems and don't value suggestions for improvement, but view such as exhibiting a "superior attitude." Staff given gift cards during the holidays and for engaging in health-conscious activities but then (without prior notice) that "gift" money was added to gross salary and taxed! Worst benefits ever! Staff is required to clock in/out like those in a factory; rather unprofessional for a modern law office.
