Pros

Those who work at AHBL truly are kind people. The company is trending towards growing in size and in mentality around social expectations of companies nowadays. Fairly traditional office culture without the large downsides of such a culture (being overworked for minimal pay, etc)

Cons

The family culture means that you are on the outs with everyone if you do not put the effort in to “click” (talk about your personal life) with everyone Minimal minority inclusion (women and people of color are minimally represented within the employee base) No trainings on diversity, equity, and inclusion to general staff Atmosphere of a “good old boys’ club”

Pros

Great supportive landscape team, friendly to work and collaborate with. Some interesting community projects, had good opportunity to sketch and produce hand graphics and models. Pretty good work-life balance and comp time - only firm in the landscape arch field who I’ve heard of doing this.

Cons

Super low pay, especially for Seattle. As a single person who had recently graduated from a 3-year masters program, I could not afford to live in seattle on this salary and left. Old school, top down management, a bit of micromanagement as well. Overall, seemed like a conservative firm that was hard-pressed to try new ways of operating/managing. Very low diversity and mainly run by a bunch of old white guys.

Pros

-Great employees/work environment. -Alright offices, open concept is a little distracting though -Decent Benefits (Minimal time off, but common in field) -Good Bonuses -Good work/life balance. Overtime usually not expected as with many other private engineering firms (unless there is a big deadline/urgent matter) -Great Project Managers and mostly great Principals

Cons

-Mediocre Pay for Private Industry -Principals have an old style of management -No remote work option (not even partially) even after a successful year+ of doing so -Career advancement paths are not clear -Raises basically match inflation so in reality your pay does not really increase year to year
