Pros

well, the coffee is great

Cons

All the hallmarks of a low trust environment, characterized by micromanagement, a blame culture, lack of transparency, poor communication, toxic interpersonal dynamics, and lack of recognition and appreciation. These factors contribute to a toxic and demoralizing workplace where employees struggle to perform their best and thrive in their roles.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We see that you are a former teammate, and we thank you for your time with us. We never like to hear that a teammate has had a negative experience. As an owner and operator of apartment homes, our business is 24/7, and weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call are par for the course. As you are aware, the accounting team is in the stabilization portion of a system implementation, which in the long term will make our accounting processes more efficient. We are aware that this implementation has been a challenge for our teammates, and leadership has utilized several recognition venues for the team including additional days off, providing lunches and dinners, monetary recognition, moving duties to other departments, and adding staff. Additionally, project meetings, videos, and a weekly Accounting Stand-ups, have been implemented to enhance communication for this team. At AIR, we have an intentional focus on a collaborative and productive culture based on respect for others and personal responsibility. We select the most qualified candidate for open positions, which for internal opportunities, includes consideration for performance and team contribution. The company and the CAO have an open-door policy and welcome the opportunity to learn more about your concerns. Please consider emailing us directly at YourVoice@AIRCommunities.com. We are here to listen!

Financials are flawed

Pros

The people I worked with are amazing, that would be the only upside of working here.

Cons

The system conversion / split was rushed, and not well planned. As a result the financials are misstated and have been since January. Everyone is working 60+ hours after months of trying to correct the many ongoing issues. The contractors are worthless, management has been unresponsive, and many extremely knowledgeable and tenured employees are flocking as a result.

We also think our team members are our greatest asset and believe it’s our talented team that sets us apart! 2020 was a transformative and challenging year with the complex nature of a company split, teammates dealing with their own personal and professional challenges during the pandemic, and a variety of systems implementations. No doubt that this placed significant demands on teammates across the organization. Based on focus groups and surveys, we sought the input of our team to be responsive to ways to enhance our culture. Throughout 2021 we have taken numerous steps to enhance our teammates work experience. These include summer hours, breakfasts with the CEO, lunches with leaders, reception with the Board, Town Square events, Thirsty Thursday, leadership book club, ongoing clarification of priorities, filling open positions, enhanced resources, and much more. We encourage and welcome open and honest dialogue to ask questions and share ideas and concerns. In addition to “open doors” and accessible leaders, we also have focus groups, surveys, “ombudsmen,” an online suggestion box, and a confidential/anonymous reporting tool. We are routinely reviewed (quarterly) and audited (annually) by our independent auditor. In addition, the audit committee of our board is comprised of independent directors and reviews regularly our financial statements and our financial control environment. We also have a robust internal audit function and an intentional focus on maintaining our internal control environment. It’s simply incorrect to say that our financials are “flawed.” We are proud to be recognized as a “Top Workplace” in Colorado from the Denver Post for the ninth consecutive year and will work with our teammates and leaders to continue cultivating the kind of culture that affords longevity, growth, opportunity, and camaraderie.

Terrible work life balance

Pros

Peers were great to work with.

Cons

This company is truly a disaster. Very little care for you as a person. Long hours, little reward. Stress levels were insane. A lot of talking behind people's backs, cliques like high school. Spend most of my days crying and doubting my abilities to do my job. A micromanagement environment.
