Pros

Compensation is good comparing to the surrounding hotels.

Cons

Management lack of professionalism is something I have never seen in my 10+ years professional carrer. In AKA Brickell you will see Executive members spending their time every other day gossiping with other employees in the cafeteria. They basically expect you to be part of their “cool kids club” (or at least try to be) if you are not showing interest on their activities, talks or happy hours then they will make sure you don’t last. Although this is not a big corporate hotel like a Hilton,Marriott management leaves no space for individuality. The problem with that it’s that they don’t have any type of official SOPs meaning the way things are supposed to be done just depend on what upper management feels like that specific day. They will change procedures every other week and hold you accountable like if you were supposed to know it before hand.

Pros

The major pro was that everyone was extremely pleasant to work with at all properties across the portfolio, given how thinly stretched everyone was. Properties are extremely beautiful and well maintained. Everyone truly believed in the product at the end of the day and the vision that the Kormans had set forth in their vision of hospitality with AKA Hotel Residences and the new Hotel AKA product. Truly a fantastic family to work for.

Cons

The company culture was amazing several years ago, but has completely has changed since the growth started with the Miami acquisition back in 2021. Unfortunately, AKA is starting to lose the touch of what attracted many of us to join them. Growing pains with new properties and expanded teams were expected, but it quickly became a revolving door with disorganization across many departments. Leadership has also changed, and the tone was condescending at time - most likely due to pressure from the new investors. Dedicated team members who spent years with the company were either frustrated and left on their own terms, or laid off unexpectedly. I've sadly seen burnout more than ever across several properties once the growth period began.
