Pros

They offer great benefits. Most of the people are smart, talented, and hardworking.

Cons

Lack of gender diversity in leadership: They shared an objective earlier this year to increase female representation and then hired a white male CMO, white male CFO, white male Chief of Staff, white male Head of Partnerships. 8 out of 9 ELT members are men. All directors and managers in the engineering org are men. Lack of leadership experience: several members of leadership are difficult to work for/with due to being combative, accusatory, and/or defensive, while several others are essentially non-existent and completely hands off. Lack of structure: this is typical of a startup but worth calling out as a con. Personally I don't mind it, but if you need or enjoy structure and consistent communication around changes, this isn't the place for you.

Pros

You get to work with reasonably smart people with good backgrounds, so it's always a good learning experience. Also, the company is remote, so you don't have to commute to work.

Cons

Akasa doesn't value its people. Check out their median employee tenure duration on LinkedIn. During my time there, I didn't feel valued or appreciated, while there was always a lingering fear of being terminated if you made any mistakes. I remember a colleague being fired over something that I believe would be at most a slap on the wrist in a normal company. Their belief in employee dispensability is palpable in the culture. Hence you would see dedicated and hardworking employees, who I never thought would leave the company, all of a sudden disappear. I have seen many high-performing and committed individuals leaving the company because of burnout or the sheer fact that doing one's job is extremely difficult here. There's a new fire everyday when you open your notebook in the morning. The middle management is a bunch of yes-men who don't have the spine to stand up for something.

Pros

- Solid work / life balance - Remote culture - Relatively solid compensation - Great people outside of senior management - Interesting mission - Minimal micromanagement

Cons

- Sometimes confusing or poorly communicated vision - Top down decision making with little opportunities for feedback and no transparency - When feedback is given it isn't incorporated - Poor opportunities for career development and advancement - No retirement benefits - Doesn't prioritize diversity - Few opportunities to try new things or improve processes - Financial instability with over hiring/rapid expansion and then layoffs/cost cutting measures - Senior executives don't trust management or individual contributors
