Pros

The client brands are strong, but AKQA in Australia often gets only small piecemeal projects for these clients with the really interesting projects worked on by other agencies.

Cons

There are so many negatives - toxic culture, very poor client management, uninspiring leaders and projects. Those with low ethics tend to climb the ladder. Naturally there is a very high staff turnover due to burnout, and the agency falling short of expectations.

Pros

Good people, nice rooftop, free drinks on Friday.

Cons

NO travel or parking reimbursement, NO reimbursement for travel to client's offices, NO gym reimbursement, NO cell phone / internet reimbursement, NO training budget ever gets approved, NO days off for training / conferences ever get approved, NO flexible vacation plan, NO lunches, NO work-from-home policy, NO modern equipment, NO leadership you can learn from, very rare to get time-in-lieu repaid for overtime / weekends / holidays worked, NO Christmas bonuses what so ever, horrible raises -- no wonder the average employment length is under 9 months. Think antiquated sweatshop with no vision or ability to sell, and that's AKQA in Sydney. Race to mediocracy because nobody at the wheel knows how to do anything other than BS clients and then farm the work out to contractors.

Pros

AKQA is big enough that many staff can get away with not working too hard, especially if they’re 100% dedicated to a big client. There are a lot of junior staff who lurk on Slack and slack at work, so it’s not a bad place to make friends. If you’re lucky, you’ll have good projects and caring managers. And no one ever complained about the free beer and wine, except maybe some account people whose project team was simultaneously missing a deadline, drinking beers and playing pong.

Cons

Problems, like many clients and staff, change frequently. But the essential problem of the business remains: you can’t make your clients happy if your staff don’t feel appreciated, empowered and supported. Lots of great people used to work at AKQA. Ask just about anyone who did and they’ll tell you they’re glad they’re gone.
