Pros

Vacation PTO accrual, even for part time employees. The people you support and some coworkers are awesome. Lots of employees are extremely passionate about the work done by ALSO.

Cons

Never speak up about concerns unless you want your hours cut or to be harassed out of a site. Some managers can’t take accountability when they've harmed someone or contributed to a toxic/ unsafe work environment. You never get an actual break unless you work in the office. Otherwise, you must sign away your right to breaks when you get hired or they won't hire you. Some managers play favorites so be prepared to be treated poorly if you're not personal friends with the manager. They may promise to be accommodating of your schedule needs but then gaslight you and try to force you to work when you're unavailable. Managers stick together and will team up against you if you challenge any unfairness or harm being caused. Managers are all overworked and in turn overwork their leads. There are never enough employees.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback about your experience at ALSO. We genuinely appreciate your honesty and we're committed to learning from your experience to ensure that every member of our team feels welcome and valued. First, we want to address our spaces being safe for Trans and non-conforming genders— we take this concern very seriously and are eager to learn more about your experience so we can address the issues quickly and directly. Cultivating a community that is safe, inclusive, and positive for all is at the very heart of ALSO’s purpose. We encourage you to access one of our many feedback channels, including our confidential third-party reporting hotline or if you are willing, to meet with our E-Team members to share more. Additionally, we are committed to continuous action on our equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan that includes ongoing education, policy updates, and feedback loops for all leaders and Advocates. Our antiharassment policy includes using correct names and pronouns and encourages people to report any concerns via our confidential third-party hotline without fear of retaliation. Finally, like many other agencies who support those who experience life with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we are still coming back from the impacts of the pandemic when it comes to staffing. We are working cross-functionally to continually energize our hiring and onboarding efforts to ensure that we are fully staffed across our programs. Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback. Your insights are essential as we work towards making ALSO a special and authentically positive workplace for all of our team members.

Pros

Helping people with disabilities stay in their communities.

Cons

Some of the senior leaders are downright nasty. Also, if you aren’t part of the in crowd (especially the CFO’s), it can be a crummy experience.

Pros

A very forward thinking agency that gives a voice not just to the people they support but to staff as well. There's a strong sense of unity. Always looking to improve and do better.

Cons

They keep people that aren't a good fit in positions for too long.
