Pros
Overinflated salaries. Worked directly with a good group of people. Surrey Research Park is nice and has lots of wildlife (who would probably be more competent than some at ANGLE).
Cons
Oblivious to the issues, or simply don’t care. No consequences for idiotic financial decisions and poor planning, and only interested in the opinions of those at the top, with no consideration for those actually affected. An interesting choice to pack full the senior management team with a CCO and a CSO at a time when there were major financial restraints elsewhere, and a refusal to approve small projects and lab-based positions for a fraction of the cost. Overall weird company structure, with pointless departments (Glassdoor won’t let me be more specific) that could be more efficiently integrated to prevent having ‘middle men’, overlapping, and people going around with little to do. A tendency to have incompetent and under qualified people in higher positions, particularly in mid/higher management. Generally no consequences for incompetency. Certain departments are very poorly managed and get away with a lot (Glassdoor won’t let me be more specific). Money was recently wasted on a very poorly organised (and pointless) promotional campaign where there was no understanding of what was actually being demonstrated. Staff in lower/lab-based positions not treated very well, no procedures or consistency in place regarding growth/promotions, and very few opportunities to actually develop your skills and progress. The pre-fix ‘Senior’ gets thrown in front of a lot of people’s positions, with no actual change in responsibilities, and some people may see multiple promotions a year, particularly if they are already quite high up. Contrary to a recent review (Glassdoor won’t let me be more specific), it is difficult for more junior members to actually progress and develop skills within a top heavy company, and this is an example of one of the major issues where unqualified and unapproachable people are placed in senior positions, leading to a mass exodus of junior staff members within a short period. As a company that relies on a ‘medical device’ for the services and products it aims to provide, there is zero interest (or sufficient internal expertise) in device development. Ultimately, they will fall behind competitors in the liquid biopsy market with an outdated mindset and obsolete technology.
