Pros

Benefits are really good. For yourself, $20.00 per pay period.

Cons

If you are not the right color, this will not be a good place to grow. You will always feel inferior to the master. Even if you are smart, know what it takes in a career to be successful, if you are not the right complexion, it’s best to move on. Don’t waste your precious time.

Great people - low morale

Pros

- Some of the sweetest people you will ever meet - A mission-driven work culture - GREAT health benefits - Competitive pay (keeping in mind, this is a not-for-profit) - Plenty of learning opportunities - Flexible work options (...for now...) - Respectful of work/life balance

Cons

- My job description only loosely matched what I did day to day - Few opportunities for advancement - A "gotcha" culture; HR and leadership seems very keen on "catching" employees doing wrong -Low morale in the wake of leadership transition; budgets suddenly cut, speculation of going back into the office full-time, confusion over transition, etc. - Disorganized leadership that leads to scrambling each time a large project rolls out - Poor internal communication that frequently leads to confusion. - Anybody outside leadership is not told when an employee leaves the company. For the majority of workers, that employee just disappears. It creates a strained culture.

More Like High School Than a Job

Pros

The pay is enough to stick through the obstacles.

Cons

When I first got the job, I was extremely excited and overjoyed. Then the honeymoon phase wore off...... A typical day begins at 9:30 AM and ends at almost 7:30 PM. There is no such thing as confidentiality within the office. Whatever you tell your manager, whether it's personal or otherwise, be prepared for everyone including others in other offices to know your business. HR is a joke. You can call them or email them multiple times about an issue and you will only get a response when they see fit or if you CC an executive. The pay is ok, but with as much nitpicking and favoritism that you have to deal with it's not worth it. You have to severely brown nose to get any kind of recognition or reward. The office conditions are also deplorable. The chairs provided are beyond uncomfortable. I have had to start making regular appointments with my chiropractor since starting with the company. There is also no break room or bathroom in the in-store branches. Employees have to use the facilities provided by whatever store they are located in. Management doesn't communicate well or barely at all. Policies change and appear daily. One day you may be told one thing, and the next day you may be getting written up because of something that happened with another employee and now the policy has changed without notification. There is no work/life balance. By the time you get off work, you only have a couple of hours to decompress and prepare for the next day. That's assuming that you don't have children or extracurricular activities. It's hard to plan anything in your life due to the long and weird hours. The schedule is made monthly, but the manager drags their feet getting the schedule to you so you normally get it a couple of days before the next month starts. There also may be 4 or 5 temporary copies before the manager actually gives you a hard copy. All in all, terrible place to work. The executives and managers clearly play favorites with some employees not facing any repercussions at all for major infractions while others are punished severely for mild transgressions and mistakes. Also, although we normally work 9.5-10 hour shifts, our lunch break is never longer than 30 minutes. I will say that the health benefits are pretty worthwhile. Vision, dental, health, and life insurance are included free of charge. Dependents are added at additional cost, but the cost is menial. Again, it takes HR forever to provide you with copies of your records to partake in these things though. The company does not match 401k contributions, but a 401k is offered. Pay is ok for starter adults (adults under 29) with minimal bills, but compensation isn't enough anyway after dealing with the daily dose of unprofessionalism and lack of appreciation by management that you will have to swallow.
