Just a mess

Pros

Employees that are passionate and actually care about their work and the customer

Cons

Bad management at the top. Sold the company and just purely caring about themselves and what they get which is a big earn out which leads to poor behaviour and decisions. People have suffered as a result. Everything they say they don’t preach and it’s a clear divide as you can clearly see from the office.

Bad leadership

Pros

Good engineers and decent middle management

Cons

insipid leadership showing their true colours after the company was sold. People are treated as widgets and just got rid of once they hit bench to make sure their pockets are filled with cash. Not a people centric company so better to find work elsewhere than be deceived with false promises and end with disappointment

Pros

People were the best Used to gather on a Friday after work and play for hours Made great friends over the years Worked on interesting projects

Cons

I’ve never seen this company managed well Back before the split (Melbourne IT) CEO was shady and sold shares before announcing bad results. Redundancy after redundancy (Suncorp). Then the company split and kept the name but didn’t spit any of the debt. “Fresh start” with new CEO that used to be on the board. His idea of good culture was people wearing arq branded t-shirt and that was it. Spends his time publishing on LinkedIn instead of improving the company (tech bro vibes). Sales team seems to be shuffling every couple of months. Their roles kept changing and given tasks that didn’t align with their title/job I was told there were no bonuses for sales so hard to find people who will stay. They had to take care of existing clients which gave little time to find new ones as well. This created a situation where there were very few projects and those projects were overall poorly managed. I heard from other employees that Outware (previous name of the mobile side of ARQ) used to be respected and trusted by client, that’s not really the case anymore. These are my personal opinions over the years I’ve worked there. It’s hard to recommend this company even for juniors as I’ve seen a few juniors being made redundant due to lack of projects, or would be sold as seniors and struggle, or would be assigned to projects that were not maintained and end up supporting legacy codebase. Don’t expect to be paid fairly (according to market standard) And don’t expect to be promoted either. Promotion budget is based on results and they haven’t been great Instead of paying their employees fairly, they prefer sponsoring a footy team. They also prefer privatising the Lume for an afternoon with waiters and drink instead of addressing issues.
