Pros

Some great people working hard to succeed under impossible circumstances and in a poisonous environment

Cons

There are so many things wrong with this company, it's hard to decide where to start. First, their system is a collection of patched together, poorly designed, bug-infested, difficult to use applications. These problems exist NOT because of the incompetence of development, but because management doesn't understand the resources needed to properly develop and TEST software. It's downright scary that their customers trust this software to run their companies. There is a problem with nepotism at ASA like I have never seen before. Officers of the company use ASA to provide jobs for their children, sometimes placing them in "senior" level jobs that they aren't even remotely qualified for. In REAL companies, officers of companies will go out of their way to avoid any appearance of favoritism. Not at ASA. Officers treat the company like their own personal kingdom. I've also never encountered the level of blatant dishonesty from senior management that I experienced at ASA. During the interview process, I asked specific questions about travel requirements and they told me what they thought I wanted to hear, then the rules changed after I started. If you interview with ASA, make sure you get everything in writing, because they will simply say they never said it. My offer letter specifically stated that I would be reporting to a Director, then immediately after I started, I was told I reported to an analyst. These are the kind of people that can look you directly in the eye and tell you something they know isn't true and still go home and sleep at night. ASA was privately owned until December 2013, when it was purchased by a much larger company based in Canada. The company was limping along, with a handful of overworked, overly stressed employees until a couple of months ago, when they decided even that wasn't enough. Management went on a cutting spree, laying off long term employees with knowledge that is now lost forever. The Hardware, or Technical Services, group was crippled when they laid off two employees with over thirty years experience between them, that were the only ones that knew how to build systems. Anyone considering working for this company needs to be aware that senior management values no one, they look at all employees as an expendable commodity that can be thrown away and easily replaced, even though experience has shown them otherwise. It's literally like they are deaf, dumb, and blind. If you are part of the implementation group, you will be required to regularly travel on holidays and weekends without any form of compensation. ASA has interpreted the exempt salary rule to mean they can force you to work whenever they want and not pay you. If you are currently unemployed, and have no other options, ASA may represent an opportunity for you. If however, you have ever worked at a technology company and know how a software development company is supposed to operate, RUN, don't walk away from this company.
