Pros
+the country culture is interesting and welcoming (if you have the right passport mind you) +small town feel but close to Dubai for weekends +after hours or weekend work not required very much
Cons
+Facilities are substandard...offices are in temporary buildings that have been there since 2011...classrooms are also housed in temporary buildings (save for engineering building which was built in 2016) +The senior leadership is disorganized and unfortunately has little idea how to manage a university or instill pride in place of work. + The president has free reign to make any and all management decisions and he is extremely inexperienced and often absent. No one is able to question him on any decision. +They will enroll students 6 weeks into the semester. (this is not a typo) It would not be unusual for a student to be allowed admission even after later than 6 weeks. +Morale is always extremely low (staff, faculty, and students). +Policies are handed down without discussion with faculty or staff and they are often impossible to implement. +Rampant cheating and grade inflation. +They have numerous policies in place that no one follows but looks like they are following accreditation standards...it is mostly a mirage. +Academic calendar is decided upon by the president and it changes each year according to whims no one can discern...it is also not announced until very last minute. +Fear mentality exists among faculty and staff. +Very unfriendly place to work. +Faculty and staff assigned status based on country of origin. +Welfare of students hardly ever a consideration. +Very little social activities for students...no campus culture to speak and same little sad events each term and students complain mightily about nothing to do in the evenings or weekends. +Expensive tuition which many students struggle to afford (reaching for American University of Sharjah rates apparently without offering same quality) and current semester tuition costs are not even listed on website...what is listed is incorrect. +Faculty and administrative staff often leave after a year or two or only stay for one contract.
