Pros

The only pro that can be found here is if you posses a legitimate and real care for the developmentally disabled and want to try and help better someones life.

Cons

Where to begin? There is no real career opportunity here. Your wages will start low, and they will stay low. There was a pay freeze a few years back and it hasn't gotten any better since then. Don't expect to be able to take any complaints to your program managers or even your area managers, the actual power is all up at the top, and they can barely do anything down there to hear or adjust your grievances. There are miles and miles of red tape in this job, and those like it, but be warned, always always always do exactly what your manual says, they will throw you under the bus in the event of any accidents. They were recently under probation from the state for a few different issues. Unfortunately your co-workers may or may not be any better, gossip is a HUGE problem through out the company, so be very careful what you say and who you say it too. They will constantly tell you how important you are to the company, and then continue to do nothing to show you, while the entity itself makes a tidy sum of profit, please note, not a non-profit. I have to give the CEO a middle ground, not because hes doing a good job, but because they change CEO's so often you would think it was a new season of American Idol so its hard to tell if they are doing a good job or not.

Pros

The clients are endearing human beings who have suffered a lot in life especially from management negligence from the agency Aacres LLC in Vancouver, WA, therefore almost all of them have a lot of heart even if they can be difficult at times but they always apologize Many DSP house staff are wonderful, beautiful and loving people who care so much for others. Most of the DSPs are very good hearted and friendly down to earth people who have suffered much in life as well which is why they are there and they’re amazingly patient with the terribly cruel management The first two weeks of training is great fun even if it’s all downhill after that Rarely you can have the opportunity to join individual clients at fun outings if you are lucky enough to have a client who has the money and capability to go to such events

Cons

The only way to advance in this company is if you are friends with management from Aacres and from another agency Hope. A majority of the office staff party very hard and drink every weekend together. They like bar hopping and gathering in large groups even during a global pandemic crisis. If you are not part if this group and you don’t enjoy drinking and partying hard hard hard then there is little to no hope at all that you’ll ever be promoted in this company rotted to the core by nepotism Office staff spend most of their time smoking outside of the office. There is a house near the main office in the Vancouver, WA location and the clients and staff watch them smoke at least four hours a day outside gossiping on all staff and ignoring important calls and text messages The pay is horrible and you don’t get your accumulated paid time off pay after leaving HR likes to party party party with the party kids from the rest of the office and practically lets them get away with murder (let’s them treat DSP caregiving house staff like worthless trash) It’s nearly impossible that they’ll ever fire the bad apples who are DSPs, from being so desperate for staff and not wanting to have to cover any shifts at the houses. It can take years if not forever it seems for rude, awful, abusive, sick and neglectful house staff to be fires Good luck ever getting the permission to go on any vacations even if the management staff go on one up to 4 times a year. They’ll lie, tell you that you have the right as well as that they’ll help you find coverage and then later harass you that you need to find your own coverage after all so they don’t have to do their job DSPs are expected to have perfect communication with everyone but office staff don’t communicate with us or each other on things they should. This causes pure chaos We have to us an ADP app to clock in and out of our shifts but it is constantly glitching and if you don’t clock in or out on time you have to go through a terribly lengthy paperwork process and send it into the office yourself physically Management likes to talk the talk but won’t walk the walk. They say they’ll fix things and then they never do Management acts like they are absolutely perfect, they are condescending, patronizing, mean, dehumanizing and punish everyone for the mistakes of one or two people. It is like being in High School and being scolded like you are an intellectual inferior You are not treated with respect or like an adult unless you are part of the management clique Not all shifts are treated equally but all staff are treated like they are less than There is utterly zero accountability in the chain of command. If you talk to management staff regarding a problem and they don’t care to do anything to resolve it even after saying they will then it’s your fault for not going higher up in the list of the chain of command and there is not even a slap on the wrist for all the management staff you talked to. There’s no guilt on their part. No apologies from them ever in any situation because the chain of command is simply a scam to allow them to never get in any trouble for not doing their jobs when they knew very well that something was wrong This is a horrible and mentally exhausting place to work. If you decide to work here please choose to only work dayshifts. If you work dayshift you’ll get coverage to leave the house you work at and go to staff meetings and training classes. Everything is catered to the dayshift staff. Dayshift are also not expected to do much else except paperwork and going on occasional outings e.g. grocery shopping, and therapist appointments which dayshift right now don’t have to do because of the current global pandemic. Groceries are being brought by the main driver and therapists are coming to the houses. All the office staff were dayshift staff too and they’ll be nicer to you. Also if you get stranded at a house where no one comes to relieve you from your shift and your stuck, it’ll be a lot easier for the office staff to find coverage because office hours are usually still open. Office staff will pressure you to work extra shifts especially the next shift at your house if someone is not able to come but say no. They’ll never stop after the first yes until you say no, I am going to die of sleep deprivation. Sometimes if you do a double shift you’ll end up stranded for a third. Though it is against company policy this company is known to let people work 5 consecutive shifts in a row. They’ll pressure you as well to say in your application that you are willing to work other shifts besides day but that usually means that you’ll end up working a funky schedule of doing two swing shifts Friday to Saturday and two day shifts Sunday to Monday and the one other day to get your full time hours are going to be at random houses and different hours every week depending on the circumstances and in many cases you won’t have the option to get an extra shift for several weeks of the year from there not being a need for coverage and possibly your life schedule doesn’t allow it to happen. The office staff are also known to punish every DSP with long winded b fests at staff meetings every second Friday of the month from 11 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm. Depending on your shift and schedule but everyone is required to go to one or the other with no consideration to the fact that you may have a life, and another job. You will get yelled at if you don’t go even if it is for a family emergency issue. They yell at everyone and repeat the same rants over and over again every monthly staff meeting. This is a requirement even at this moment for everyone to attend the meeting through zoom or if they cannot access zoom they must go in person to the office for the staff meeting even with a deadly global pandemic going on. In training they tell you how important the health of the individual clients are e.g. their sleep and mental health but the office staff don’t care at all about the staff’s sleep schedule and mental and physical health. This is a caregiving business that doesn’t even care of their clients if they are putting their staff at risk of getting a virus at their office meetings and then them having to go to the clients home’s right afterwards. If something bad does happen to clients from lack of help from office staff high up on top of the chain of command at the Vancouver location they are going to blame the DSP’s to save themselves every time. Expect to always be thrown under the bus for anything bad that happens at all that could look bad on them
