Not a professional workplace

Pros

Good holiday package There are some very nice and genuine people

Cons

Politics seem to drive promotions Unprofessional communication and sudden structure changes Senior management are in a different valley No career development A number of people leaving and replaced by contractors The company is on track to lose reputation as key members are pushed to leave Do not be surprised if the CEO decides to hire an incompetent person to take a senior management position - (it is based on who he likes and dislike) London teams are in complete mess and the sales team over there sells / over promises clients with products that will not be delivered Few reviews above added by HR but do not really speak for the company I liked the company more when it was under the old management and before the ICAP acquisition

Hi, Alice here! Thank you for leaving a review. It’s really disappointing to read that things didn’t work out for you here. I’d just like to touch on a couple of the points you have made, particularly around your comment “few reviews about added by HR but do not really speak for the company”. I can confirm that this is absolutely not true, we don’t add glorified reviews as we want our profile to be an honest and true reflection of how our employees feel about the business. I fully appreciate that we have gone through many changes over the past few months, but our people are some of the smartest in the industry and we’re growing as a business in a really positive way. I can, however, understand we have somewhat struggled with our fast growth whilst still maintaining the “small company/start-up” spirit. With the recent acquisition, it is inevitable that the culture may shift slightly, but we very much want to remain true to ourselves. Regarding our internal communications, this is something that we are working on as we know this is an area where we need to make improvements. We fully support and encourage career development here, so I’m shocked to read that you felt you weren’t progressing. We support external and internal training courses to assist in career development and really believe in nurturing our people. We’re sorry that you felt you couldn’t take the next step in your development. I would be happy to talk if you do want to get in touch, otherwise we wish you all the best for the future. Thank you, Alice.

Squashing disagreements isn't healthy and made a bad atmosphere

Pros

Lots of good hardworking people doing their best with some good humour. Regular perks and piss-ups

Cons

Some six months ago a senior engineer disappeared. It seems management lied to us that he had "decided" to leave, but noone believe that anymore. he was outspoken, opinionated, yet dedicated software guy, pretty much everyone knows he's pushed, given gardening leave or paid off to keep quiet. Maybe a technical disagreement. Whatever it was he wasn't supposed to say, we realised it must be bad for the company if they were willing to lose him to keep the rest of us in the dark. I heard management have got rid of a earlier troublemaker too but it was before I joined. Since then the software team's morale has dropped. We need to expand to get our projects done, but out of 23 software people, 5 permanents have resigned over the last six months and we've recruited one or two. It sounds similar in other parts of the company. Management are putting on a brave face and saying they're not pandering to coders while spending money on treats and distractions. Fine if all your care about is benefits and getting paid.

Thank you for your feedback. Whilst it’s always appreciated receiving honest feedback from the workforce, it’s also disappointing to learn this is the perception from anyone across our business. Losing members of the team whether it is of their own accord or not is always difficult and the effects it has on a team is always underestimated especially when we’re still quite a tight knit, small organisation. However, people do move on to new challenges and sometimes people do find that as an organisation grows and matures it’s not always the same place it started out as, effectively one can outgrow the other. It’s quite natural at this stage of maturity for a company to go through a period of attrition and for those that have been here a while to move on to pastures new. Whilst we never want to lose good people, we don’t want to prevent people fulfilling their career aspirations either so sometimes it’s unavoidable losing people at similar times during organisation growth and change. We do encourage an environment for people to speak up and communicate but there is an expectation it would be done in a professional manner and in a constructive way which sometimes can be difficult when working in high pressured environments. As a result, work environments can turn toxic and quickly become a place people don’t want to work in if left ignored. I’d encourage you to talk to your direct line manager or come and talk to us in HR where we’d be happy to sit and talk or support you through any changes you are currently finding confusing or unsettling and even if you have questions surrounding anything you feel you don’t quite understand. We’re more than happy to listen and take on board any feedback. Thank you, Alice.
