Pros

I must enter five words here. Students and some select coworkers are pretty cool.

Cons

5 word minimum here? What's the max?! -low pay in relation to expectations upon you -"full-time" means 70-80 hour weeks regularly -teachers have to make their own curriculum without support, budget, or resources -most coworkers will undermine you if they're bored that day -there are ~23 admin for a ~90 person school; this org. is more top-heavy than a rhino on a unicycle -admin will gaslight you frequently, so make a paper trail of everything! -the campus has no windows and feels prison-like -power-hungry middle management will absolutely stab you in the back -pay scale exists, but only as decoration (pay disparity between admin + staff is NUTSO) -shady insurance practices -poor responses to covid outbreaks -no useful training for any staff

Pros

If you don't have any morals or sense of ethics you can really do well here.

Cons

Momma mia, how many characters do I get? You won't make much money. They'll tell you there isn't enough money in the budget for raises but then admin will shell out money for beer and pizza for board meetings. Oh and then a board member will leave an open beer in the student restroom. Totally normal behavior for a school board right? A supervisor was banging a subordinate so that was pretty awkward for everyone except the person that was getting hooked up with privileges because of said banging. There was a zero tolerance policy for racism until one of the administrators did something racist. They suspended all discipline and then let the racist admin work from from. Out of sight out of mind. Did someone say downsizing? The budget dried up so they furloughed everyone for the summer. The rules are made up and the points don't matter at this school. I would encourage you to check it out just to see the dysfunction first hand. It's only a matter of time before a documentary is made about this place.

Pros

The kids, and only the kids. However, APL is aware of that and will exploit your attachment and use it to gaslight and shame you for taking care of yourself instead of the learners. Yes, even during a pandemic.

Cons

Where do I begin? For one, several members of the salaried administrative team have actively used micro-aggressions and have been blatantly disrespectful and racists to hourly staff of color, specifically one with tenure. This had been reported several times but nothing was done about it, not even the Board of Directors took action when notified. Secondly, in WA State hourly workers are legally mandated to take two ten minute breaks AWAY from your clients. The number of times I wasn’t allowed to take these breaks shouldn’t be higher than the number of times I was able to. But it is, and this is wage theft. Third, the unprofessionalism exhibited by supervisors who not only bullied staff with tenure working beneath them, they bullied staff who stood up to her or the subordinate she is dating. Do better.
