The Worst Management Ever

Pros

Exposure to software sakes environment. Surrounded by great colleagues who are all under appreciated.

Cons

Ownership is very insensitive and thrives on making employees feel inadequate. What's truly inadequate is the compensation, which is far below industry standard. I've heard several managers say they tried to tell the CEO that you need to pay more in order to keep good people and keep them motivated. But of course he wouldn't budge. The CEO likes to use scare tactics to motivate his employees instead. That is the most outdated and ineffective forms of management I 've ever witnessed. It's really bad when it becomes apparent that the CEO himself wrote one of his only two positive reviews.

Pros

Work with relatively up to date technology

Cons

I have worked for several companies and have consistently been praised for my work, but not here. To start with, the management has created an extremely stressful environment. An inordinate number of employees I have seen suffer from stress related health problems that I am aware of. They tend to assign an absolutely impossible workload, with no defined schedule or set of priorities. You are expected to be continuously interrupted to deal with immediate issues without having your primary task schedule affected. Read "Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams" by DeMarco and Lister to understand why multitasking doesn't work. They seek to motivate employees through a continuous complaints about taking too long. The manager micromanages yet holds employees responsible for managements mistakes. If you are assigned a task and complete it exactly as told and the management changes their mind about the design you will hear that you did it wrong. Due to the level of micromanagement there is really no path to grow here. You are expected to produce perfect work. I agree with them on this point but the fast pace of their workplace combined with giving inadequate and frankly often downright incorrect technical specifications, combined with inadequate QA makes this a difficult proposition. As for benefits, you need to use vacation or sick time anytime you need to be late an hour or so, regardless of whether or not you work late most nights.
