Broken and Dysfunctional

Pros

Mission orientation. Good pay and benefits. Union representation. Talented staff.

Cons

In short: abysmal and hostile leadership. Leadership is hostile to employees, sometimes even openly in large meetings. They despise the unions and try to undermine them at every step. Promotions are stifled except for leadership themselves. Huge initiatives are often canceled and ICs have received the blame despite raising objections. Employees and teams are pitted in proxy wars against each other. The environment is generally quite toxic and maddening, leading the best talent to burn out and leave. Overall very disappointing for an organization that should be much better.

Pros

Union representation for the tech workers is honestly fantastic and probably the last remaining reason the company has not fallen apart.

Cons

Executive leadership is the definition of failing upwards. They do not hold themselves accountable for their terrible decisions and when they royally screw up they give themselves bonuses and promotions. Quite literally leadership does not know, even on a superficial level, how any of the products work and the people who were working tirelessly to keep the lights on have mostly left the company because of incredibly terrible leadership. Is this the worst company to ever exist? Not by a long shot. But it is such a weird juxtaposition for a company that should be a leader in progressive values to be so incredibly toxic. It is just sad.
