      Pros

      Great organization for young people who don't have families or other 'inconvenient' attachments and are free to skip from country to country and gain hands-on experience. You can get ahead quickly if you are willing to work hard and get a name for yourself, it's a relatively small organization. Generally has a decent field reputation.

      Cons

      Limited technical expertise. Can be frustrating for more senior staff as there is not much room to grow past a certain point. You can be country director by 30. This can make it hard for bigger organizations or very experienced people from other orgs to take you seriously...

      Pros

      Give a lot of responsibility to their staff Excellent entry level role into the humanitarian industry

      Cons

      Terrible security (security manager would get drunk on nightly basis and would be unable to respond to emergencies) Lack of respect for local culture - guesthouse would play loud music late into the night despite living near very poor residents Capped upward mobility for national staff; priority for management given to inexperienced internationals <30 instead of national staff

      Great place to get a foot in the door as a recent graduate.

      Cons

      I worked for ACTED for about 1 year in the field as was troubled by their lack of strategy, corruption, and unqualified international staff.
