Great mission, poor internal culture with growth

Pros

- Ada has a great mission and actually helps folks land amazing jobs in the tech space. - They provided child care for some staff and students which is an excellent benefit in theory but the program was poorly managed and executed.

Cons

- Chronic and widespread employee dissatisfaction among staff, extremely high turnover. Dissatisfaction spans age, gender, race. - Turnover is very high. A common practice was to get an email on a Friday saying it was so-and-so's last day (which usually meant they were fired suddenly). They hire really brilliant, caring, talented people but can't seem to retain them. - Poor and toxic experience among BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ staff. An external racial equity scan completed last fall was damning but nothing has changed. Extremely disappointing given the organization's mission and stated commitment to anti-racism and inclusion. - Staff turnover and poor experience, plus highly siloed teams, has also resulted in high level of student dissatisfaction, which negatively impacts staff morale.

LGBTQIA+ POC Stay Away

Pros

Ada students truly do get jobs as software developers and many people who move in from their job at Ada do advance into better opportunities.

Cons

Complete toxic environment especially for BIPOC LGBTQIA+ staff, the micro aggressions are never ending. BIPOC in the organization with positional power do perpetuate racist harm too. If you raise your concerns - you risk being gaslit

Problematic Leadership

Pros

Dedication to mission Supportive colleagues Work life balance

Cons

Lack of career growth support Executive Leadership Team - a lot of toxicity, gaslighting is rampant; many ET members hoard/abuse their power Dedicated to supporting mission externally, but not internally for staff. They don’t ‘walk the talk’. Leadership is not supportive or understanding of staff with disabilities/neurodivergent Little to no positive feedback even when going above and beyond. Extra effort is not rewarded or even recognized.
