How to maintain a revolving door of unhappy employees
Pros
Relationships with team members. Introduction to industry, opportunity to build my skill base.
Cons
There is a clear pattern of favouritism towards certain employees, which undermines fairness and equity within the organisation. Communication lacks transparency and honesty, creating an environment where clarity and trust are minimal. Additionally, there is a notable absence of accountability from leadership. Employee mental health appears to be overlooked, and the workplace environment is divisive and ableist, which harms both morale and inclusivity. There is also a significant lack of trust in employees, resulting in a culture where staff feel overly scrutinised and hesitant to make even minor decisions without approval. Micromanagement is widespread, stifling autonomy and leading to frustration across teams. Leadership at senior levels is often under-skilled, with little to no support provided for growth and development. The lack of open and honest dialogue, particularly from senior management, has fostered a culture of “Yes men,” who are unwilling to offer honest feedback. Furthermore, the highest levels of leadership have shown a concerning tendency to hold grudges against staff who challenge them, manipulate narratives to suit personal agendas, and display unprofessional behaviour, including reprimanding People and Culture staff for sharing feedback from exit interviews. There is a troubling lack of self-reflection among senior management, with a tendency to blame departing employees for organisational issues instead of addressing potential areas for improvement. Training and upskilling programs are slow-moving, with significant delays in approvals for resources that could help staff develop. As a result, employees are unfairly blamed for knowledge gaps. Creative thinkers are not welcomed, and innovative ideas are not encouraged. There is an overwhelming expectation for employees to toe the company line with little room for independent thought or dissent. Given these issues, a significant exodus of talent is highly likely if changes are not made.
