Not a good fit for someone looking for big company environment or an easy paycheck
If compensation is below average (which I'm not sure is the case), the opportunity for growth more than makes up for it.
Will respond to these two together. No one wants an easy paycheck but noone wants to feel overworked either. The compensation is average (I agree with him) but then FOR AN INNOVATIVE firm that breaks the norms in technology but not in how its operations are structured...I leave my judgement in the balance. A promotion adding a couple of thousands to the base and some meager commission is not "growth makes up for it"
Job security is not a given and promotions are not tenure-based- yet if you are good at what you do and versatile, you are recognized, promoted, and rewarded without hesitation. It happens all the time here.
True for some parts of the organization but not others. Another way to read into it would be to say, likability, being "seen" by the influential nodes - there are 2-3 people who you'll need to seek "guidance" from, "show intent to" for word about your brilliance to gain weight. I'd rather not quote the example of some brilliant people who have been overlooked for those being seen as workhorses.
Lack of formal performance review is what you can expect from a high-growth operation. I personally have not experienced a lack of on-the-spot feedback and the culture is such that all you have to do is ask.
lack of a formal review means the inability to talk specifics, rely on personal rapport with coworkers (i.e., suck up to the next level)....need I say more.
