I have been working at Akamai full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great salary for a fresher.

    Cons

Lack innovation in security space because of poor product management. A top-down approach is followed where no product manager ever listens to field teams. If you want to learn real security, this is not your place to be.

I have been working at Akamai full-time

    Pros

Extremely people centric with a great culture of learning. Great CEO.

    Cons

The organizational policies could be better structured

    Advice to Management

It's a great company and we've done great. But need to be hawk eyed on the competition. Simply cannot afford to be lagging behind on the product value.

I have been working at Akamai full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Akamai is broken in to two main teams - Media team and the Web/Security team.

Media team have some very talented management locally, regionally and globally. Some hugely intelligent technical resources and very good sales people.

Web/Security team have some great people also but mostly the sales people and technical guys.
Security is growing and that is down to the sales team who have done well to prioritise the focus on this set of solutions and lead with a security mindset than traditional CDN play of acceleration etc.

Very good products and excellent support teams.

Extremely switched on senior leadership in the US who are also modest and easy to talk to and discuss.

CEO is a very intelligent and personable character.

    Cons

Some pockets of bad management in region. Politics is very visible between the two divisions and between certain management where it seems almost personal.

That happens in large organisations which is fine but when it becomes easily noticeable and very publicly aware then that is not good for anyone.

Outdated internal systems which you can overcome but definitely needs a major overhaul.

Somewhat slow to bring out new features which sales have been asking for that our competition bring to market much quicker.

    Advice to Management

To the regional management - Get it together. A broken set up is no good for anyone.
Staff see the lack of cohesion between management and divisions and that limits growth which is the main goal for all of us.

Thankfully the teams on the ground work together well and blatantly ignore certain senior managers.
Would be a much better place and results would be better without this type of rubbish .

Product management need to listen more to staff on the ground, do not take a blinkered approach to our competition as they are catching up very very fast!
