Business units can be siloed. Employee responsibility to make the most of the resources available at the firm.

Pros

Lots of access to C-suite level professionals very early on Nice views from the office There are some rockstars across the organization who are very helpful and approachable A great way to break into finance if you don't have much of a background in the industry

Cons

Nepotism The organization is torn between wanting to go all-in and work hard vs. clock in/out 9-5 The business model may be inferior to those through which the organization invests alongside its clients Does not provide much development employees The company has outgrown its familial culture and needs to further institutionalize

Pros

People in the company are generally very friendly and collaborative. Some nice office perks depending on the office, team meals, weekly drink events, fun outdoor activities, etc. Company really tries to get people involved in the culture. Flexible with regards to scheduling, in that staff take their vacations and are expected to and can work out of other offices when traveling.

Cons

Not much in the way of career guidance. Although the structure is pretty flat (Partner or not Partner) there is no guidance given to young professionals of how they can become a Partner or move up the ladder. A lot of young professionals are confused as to how to progress their careers within the company, whereas at other organizations, there is some sort of title recognition or something of that sort. Most Partner level professionals have come from outside the organization (where they have made their money) and don't look to be making way for younger hungry professionals. Pay is well below market, but that's the price one pays for flexible scheduling and strong company culture. Like all organizations, there is politics but most of this is at the more senior level.
