Pros

The only pros that I have for this organization is that I did learn a lot on my own, not through any guidance that you would receive from a supervisor, but genuinely by myself utilizing the NC Child Welfare Policy and Procedures, as well as a few senior employees (there's not a whole lot due to the high turnover)

Cons

- The work environment is one of the worst that I have ever worked in...EVER. Other co-workers, as well as supervisors, are cold and extremely rude. You will experience a lot of gossip and drama while working there. Supervisors talk poorly to workers about other workers....just think of it as working with a group of people who have the mentality/maturity of a teenager. - I would say that only 1-2 people who work there actually know the NC's Child Welfare Procedures and Policies, and one of them is the attorney. - Families are not getting the services that they need or deserve. - Backstabbing is a tactical and common move within this organization, so be prepared. DO NOT trust anyone...no one is truly your friend and no one has your best interest at heart. It's the exact definition of dog-eat-dog world.

Pros

Nice benefits. Decent health insurance -Blue cross and blue shield. Paid biweekly. Paid Holidays. Rewarding to help and give back to the community and help families in need. Very relaxed dress code.

Cons

It's all about who you know, who your parents are, what church you go to, and how much butt you can kiss. You will not get anywhere unless you have these qualifications. If you ever challenge management be prepared for retaliation. No new ideas... ever. Also be prepared to work for free....Yes - free. The work load is overwhelming and most employees work more than 40 hours a week and do not put it on their time sheet. You must keep your work current and up to date but no overtime and limited comp time. It is impossible to do this job in a 40 hour week. Management sees employees working over and turn the other cheek. Most counties pay overtime but Alexander does not. Sometimes comptime is allowed but you will never be able to take it.They also do not give raises. It is normal to see coworkers break down and cry. The turn over is ridiculous. They are just desperate for warm bodies to answer the phone at this point. Nobody is happy. I think over half the staff has left since the new director in 2008. Some of the old timers stay because they know they can retire soon and the others that could retire retired.

Pros

Small agency within a community that needs the social service agency due to lack of industry and educational opportunities.

Cons

Poor management, clicks within the employees, risk of termination, employees afraid to voice concerns within organization, coworkers lack trust within organization.
