Unstable work environment

Pros

-Excellent co-workers; we treat each other like family. -Overtime available sometimes; depends on work load. -Paid time off is decent after the first few years; 9 paid holidays, plus your birthday off. -Company encourages hiring from within.

Cons

-New management has caused quite a change in work environment. Unfortunately, most of the changes have been negative: close to 25 people have been laid off and ALL employees company-wide recently experienced a pay cut that will continue from now on. Generally unstable climate in terms of job security. -The company does NOT promote a healthy work/life balance. Historically, mandatory overtime has hit up to 14 hours in proofreading. Other times, no OT is required, and the low pay makes it hard to pay basic living expenses. -Not much/any room for upward growth within positions; basically only lateral movement available.

Watch your back

Pros

A lot of freedom and most people are allowed to work mostly autonomously.

Cons

You will be rewarded for hard work, if the CEO likes you. If not, he'll make you believe you will be rewarded, but it's all just smoke up the you-know-what. Also, people will stab you in the back so fast, you won't have time to react before you're carrying your stuff out the door escorted by security. The CEO is a perfectly capable person who parks in handicap spots. That says a lot about his character.

Used to Be Great

Pros

AP will have potential if the current CEO steps down. Workers at the bottom rungs are kind and knowledgeable. The work itself, when the workload's manageable, is enjoyable.

Cons

The company's down to a skeleton crew after massive layoffs a couple of years back. Salaries were cut across the board and there have been NO raises since then. There's no chance for advancement. Anyone with ambition took off like rats from a sinking ship. Everyone else is overworked and struggling to feed their families. The CEO likes to rub this in your face by sending companywide emails about the house he's buying, the gifts he gets his kids, and the 6-digit figures new accounts are bringing in. It's shameful.
